My husband and I enjoy a glass or two every now and then.... well ok.... almost every night. Our wine of choice used to be Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. It does not matter if they Australian, Californian, Italian, French and Chilean. We drink it. We are not pretending to be wine connoisseurs nor wine collectors. Ask us why the taste of a particular wine is so and most often than not, we just know how it taste like and if we enjoy it or not. You see we are just wine drinkers (and vodka, scotch, brandy & beer) We enjoy our wine. Period. Until we discovered the joys of Carmenere.
One fine day in May.... we decided to hang out in this cozy wine place tucked in the middle of a busy mall. They have mostly Spanish wines but carry others as well... they have fine cheeses (like Manchego - our favorite) and cold cuts. We decided to give it a try since our Little Contessa is enjoying a nearby Play Area and we have an hour to kill. It was my turn to pick the wine so I went ahead and read the labels and decided on this particular bottle of red. We placed our order for our usual wine accompaniment and settled in.... ready to give our amateur verdicts.
And we were not disappointed. We were amazed on how the wine tasted. We LOVED it. We loved it so much that for the next month or so, we kept going back. We even ordered 2 boxes to stock up and give as gifts to friends who appreciate good wine. We could not stop talking about it to friends. We were just thrilled to let people know about this wine that we stumbled upon.
It's been more than 8 months and we still look for Chilean Carmenere every time we need to stock up... and there is no turning back. I will not look at Californian or Australian wine quite the same again.
I am not a wine connoisseur. Never pretended to know anything about wine. I just know what I like. And enjoy it. And I love Carmenere.........
